Why This Exercise Matters:
The Single Arm Single Leg Chest Press on BOSU is an advanced variation of the chest press that challenges balance, core stability, and unilateral strength. By pressing with one arm while lifting the opposite leg, this movement forces the body to engage stabilizing muscles, improving coordination, proprioception, and muscular control. It targets the pectorals (chest), deltoids (shoulders), and triceps while also heavily activating the glutes, hamstrings, core, and hip stabilizers to maintain balance. This is a full-body exercise that enhances functional strength, injury resilience, and athletic performance.
How to Perform:
- Setup: Position a BOSU ball flat-side down and lie on it with your upper back and shoulders supported, keeping your hips elevated in a bridge position.
- Opposite Leg Lift: Raise the opposite leg of the pressing arm, keeping it straight, while pressing the grounded leg into the floor to activate the glutes.
- Grip & Press: Hold a dumbbell in one hand, with your elbow at a 90-degree angle, and press the weight straight up over your chest while keeping your core tight.
- Controlled Lowering: Slowly lower the dumbbell back to the starting position, maintaining balance and control without letting your hips drop.
- Reps & Switch: Perform the desired number of reps, then switch arms and legs and repeat.
